About Me

My Project
For the next month classmate Jordan Budd and I are going to photograph as well as produce a film on the power and beauty nature possesses so close to our home. This project allows us to get hands on experience with film and photography because it is both a hobby and a potential career option for both of us. I am extremely interested in film studies and during my time at Lovett I have taken Photography II and I.  I have also studied film in History of Film and Screenwriting I. Furthermore, this coming fall I will be attending The University of California Los Angeles School of Theater, Film, and Television and would love to acquire some more cinematography and editing skills. This project could give us a chance to not only develop critical skills and get hands on experience with film and photography, but also build our portfolios. Lastly, this project would help us make an educated decision on if we want to get into film or photography professionally.
For this project, we will be driving to, visiting, learning about, and capturing footage of nature in five locations. The locations in the order that we will be exploring them are Hurricane Falls Loop Trail (and the Tallulah Gorge), Saint Phillips Island, the Bellwood Quarry, the Arabia and Panola Mountains, and Providence Canyon State Park. Though we have a set date for each location, the dates that we visit the locations may vary due to weather and other factors. All of these locations are a driving distance away and we are excited to explore our own state and region in more depth. When we originally planned this project, we thought that we had to spend a lot of money to travel to California to capture one of the nations biggest festivals on film. After further research, we learned that there are plenty of locations in our own state that hold amazing things to be documented. At all of these places we will be taking tours and going on hikes, learning about their history as well about the environment as a whole and efforts being made to preserve it. We will be using our blog to keep track of our adventures and to keep record of the work we will do on a daily basis. We want blogging to be a big part of this project because it can record our journey to these breathtaking places and maybe we can post a few sneak peak pictures as well. The point of this project will be to show people the amazing opportunities that allow one to get outdoors in their own backyards. We hope our film and pictures will indirectly prove why it is so important to protect these majestic places and the environment in general. With this project, we aim to instill in everyone a craving for the exploration of the outdoors and to make people more aware of the impact they are having on the environment by seeing what is really at stake.  We will show the school and the board a keynote presentation along with our pictures and film, which they can evaluate. We hope to become more in tune with nature and capture its intrinsic beauty successfully in order to share our experience and love for the environment with others.
